South Africa Xenophobia Row: Mozambique Says Five Nationals Killed | Firstpost Africa | N18G

Xenophobic violence is once again escalating in South Africa, triggering fierce diplomatic backlash and emergency evacuations from neighbouring nations. Tensions erupted in the Western Cape's Mossel Bay over allegations that construction companies are hiring undocumented migrants, leaving dozens of shacks torched. While Mozambique reports five targeted deaths, Pretoria disputes the figure, saying only Mozambicans died. The crisis has sparked a regional outcry. Ghana has already repatriated 300 citizens and petitioned the African Union, while Nigeria prepares evacuations, strictly warning citizens against launching local reprisal attacks. Driven by the 'March and March' group, protesters demand that foreign workers be replaced by locals to solve severe domestic unemployment, issuing a June 30 exit deadline. As nations like Kenya and Zimbabwe issue high-alert warnings, President Ramaphosa faces immense pressure to defuse the crisis before regional diplomatic ties are permanently fractured.
