The World Meteorological Organisation warned in a report on Tuesday that sea level rise is a major threat for India and China among other countries which have large coastal population. The report is titled ‘Global Sea-Level Rise and Implications.’ The reports states that cities like Mumbai, Shanghai, Dhaka, Bangkok, Jakarta, Maputo, Lagos, Cairo, London, Copenhagen, New York, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, and Santiago are the most threatened cities by the rising sea level. Rising sea levels can lead to erosion of coastal areas which could worsen the intensity of storms and flooding. It can also increase salt levels in soil and groundwater, thereby impacting food security.
