Samora Machel: A Luta Continua! | Powerful Speech on Colonialism & African Liberation

20/10/2026 · Our Daily Africa

Descrição

“A Luta Continua!” — The struggle continues.

Samora Moses Machel, the first president of independent Mozambique, believed that the struggle for freedom had to go beyond ending colonial rule.

In this powerful speech, Machel speaks about the problems African people must continue to fight against: tribalism, ignorance, illiteracy, hunger, poverty, and the exploitation of one human being by another.

He also challenges the idea that being colonized by a European power made some people more civilized or more advanced than others. His message is direct: colonialism was a crime against humanity, and there was no such thing as humane colonialism.

For Machel, independence was only the beginning. True freedom also meant creating a society where people could live with dignity, where children could receive an education, and where no one had to suffer from hunger and poverty.

His words remain part of the history of Africa’s struggle against colonialism and the fight for self-determination.

Watch, listen, and reflect. What does “A Luta Continua” mean for Africa today?
