Oh man! This reminds me of a road trip from Rhodesia to Mocambique in the late 60s. We got to the beach we were looking for only to find our gas tank had been buggered on the way there. We sat there for two days, until a Portuguese Army unit turned up. We spoke no Portuguese, and they spoke no English. So the HUGE black sergeant and I repaired to the bar, and started drinking quart bottles of Manica. In no time flat, he sent some of his troops to remove the gas tank from the Volvo and take it into town to be welded. We spent the next two days with these black soldiers, playing rugby and getting thrashed but what a great time. Good memories.....
