Nelson Mandela: He Cast His First Vote at 75 — Then Became President | Documentary for Sleep

Nelson Mandela spent twenty-seven years in prison under apartheid and emerged to help negotiate South Africa’s transition to democracy. At seventy-five, he cast the first national ballot of his life — and weeks later became the country’s first democratically elected president.

This biography follows his rise from lawyer and activist to underground resistance leader, the Rivonia Trial, Robben Island, secret negotiations with the apartheid government, his release, the historic 1994 election, reconciliation, and the difficult compromises of building a new South Africa.
