Mozambique's Beira takes a direct hit from cyclone Idai

Tropical cyclone Idai, the biggest to hit Mozambique in over a decade, made landfall on Thursday evening just north of the port city of Beira injuring at least five people. The strongest winds around the eye were about 160km an hour, blowing from the south across the city. Its 500,000 residents are now without electricity and communications have been severed, the National Institute of Disaster Management said.
