Mozambique President Rescues Citizens from Floodwaters

MetroTV,
Mozambique's President Daniel Francisco Chapo took part in an aerial mission to survey floodwaters in southern Mozambique on Saturday. While flying over submerged fields and roads with First Lady Gueta Selemane, Chapo witnessed a dramatic rescue mission unfold. A separate helicopter crew was able to lift 12 stranded citizens, including a child, to safety, as floodwaters neared them. Chapo canceled his trip to the 2026 World Economic Forum to remain in the affected area, pledging to continue relief efforts for displaced citizens. With over 5,000 homes destroyed and major roads cut off, Mozambique faces a devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza Province, where over 100 deaths have been reported.
