At least 140 people have died and hundreds of thousands affected by the severe weather, with whole towns cut off by the floodwaters.
Sky News joined a relief mission that is helping those affected by the flooding.

Mozambique acts as a "drainage basin" for Southeast Africa. It is located at the downstream end of nine major international river systems, including the Zambezi and Limpopo. Roughly 50% of the water in Mozambique's rivers originates from outside its borders. When heavy rain falls in neighboring inland countries, the water eventually flows into Mozambique's low-lying plains, causing rivers to overflow. Additionally, Its location along the Indian Ocean Coast places it in the direct path of tropical cyclones and depressions. These storms bring torrential rainfall and storm surges that push seawater inland, blocking river outlets and exacerbating floods. There is also the issue with the Low-Lying Topography.

During the flood of 2000, a mozambique woman took refuge in a tree where she gave birth. Both mother and baby were rescued by a SA army helicopter.
