Longest-Lived Cyclone on Record!

01/09/2026 · Mr. Weatherman

Descrição

Severe Cyclone Freddy is the longest-lived cyclone on record! Freddy will actually tie the record tomorrow (31 days, tying Typhoon/Hurricane John from 1994 in the Pacific Ocean). It made a record-breaking track across the Indian Ocean, hitting Madagascar and Mozambique, and even brining rain to Zimbabwe and South African. It is hitting southern Madagascar right now with intense seas and flooding, and will make another landfall in Mozambique. Winds will gust over 200 km/h or 125 mph on Friday in Central Mozambique. Elsewhere, sargassum (stinky seaweed) continues to roll up along parts of the Caribbean and Southeastern United States. Saharan dust will be near Aruba and Trinidad and Tobago the next few days, before improving this weekend. My thoughts are with those in Madagascar and Mozambique, still dealing with Cyclone Freddy.

Oh wow, can't believe Freddy is still around 😔. We 🇬🇩 do have issues with the Sargassum seaweed and yes the smell is terrible 🤢. Thanks for this update 👍🏾.

Good morning Brian, happy Tuesday! I had no idea Freddy still existed!! Praying for those affected, please stay safe everyone. The sargassum is pretty bad right now down here on our beaches, not too good for our tourism industry. Warm day here with a cool breeze blowing since yesterday. Thanks for the update, have a blessed day Brian. 🙏🇧🇿🇧🇿

Thank you for your update. I find them to be so helpful and always spot on. Most reliable weather forecasts in the Caribbean. Lots and lots of sargassum here on Ambergris Caye Belize. Our home is beachfront on the sea. Heavy loads washed in over the weekend. Would love to send you pictures. Not sure how, as I can’t attach to this comment. You’re brilliant at what you do, thanks for the dedication.

Shirley from Montserrat. Thank you, Brian, for the reports. We seem to be in a dry belt now but our island is expecting rain next week like you said, just in time to put a damper on our St Patrick's festival. My cousin in Bermuda just messaged me about the high waves and gusty winds they're having, along with rain from this Thursday. Lucky them. Don't you report on Bermuda too?
