Inle Lake: A Sanctuary of Burmese Tradition and Thriving Nature | SLICE | FULL DOCUMENTARY
Descrição
Inle Lake is a unique microcosm of Burmese culture set amidst breathtaking nature. The way the people of the lake live arouses a sense of yearning and conveys the illusion of an archaic, perfect world. Here, the whole scope of Burmese ancient traditions is reflected unadulterated. For a long time the region was inaccessible to outsiders, but now, in the course of the country’s political reorientation, the life circumstances of the people of the lake are changing too.
The lake is a lifeline for fishermen and farmers alike. The unique floating gardens of the latter are cultivated on the water’s surface, resembling a giant carpet of water lilies. At dawn the fishermen skillfully row out to cast their nets. Their leg-rowing technique is unique. An utterly magical ambience in a magical place.

The documentary must have been shot at least five years ago, because the military dictatorship came back in 2021, and as a result of the recent 2025 earthquake in Myanmar, the inhabitants of Inlay Lake also suffered, and many lost their beloved ones and houses.

23:38 a simple dinner and life, but they have each other and eat together? That’s important. 💖

I really hope that all humanity is like this community, helping each other when someone is in need and not just wanting to help because they see the money, even though it seems like people are helping to build houses because there is a reward, but I personally am still happy to see it. 👍

I visited Inle Lake in 2005 that my first time visiting Myanmar. I was surprised about the agriculture in the lake. When I watched your video, it reminded me about the lake and Myanmar.

We explored those lovely floating tomato gardens about 20 years ago. We also got to meet many of the local people in the villages along the shores of the lake. Incredible experiences. Such a beautiful place and wonderful people. I hope they can recover from the earthquake soon and hope that peace can be restored to Myanmar.

Some of the villagers did not help because there was no meat to be served with the thank you dinner/celebration. But there were those that did help and managed to get the home built and were grateful for what was afforded/affordable, as meat is so expensive and they understood that. And cared enough to still help like the beautiful village/community members that they are. No greed or underlying expectations. Just beautiful, loving, caring hearts. And are very happy for the young couple to have their own home. Yes, it may need improvements as the wife said. But as a whole there is happiness.and they have saved to have their home built as far as it has been. (Much like my grandparents did and they had 5 children, and no bathroom, just an outhouse I remember using when I was a little girl, but it was theirs and they were happy. Such hard workers.

A glimpse into a unique culture and way of life of a people whose lives are governed by their environment. I hope the pressures of modern life does not destroy it. Thank you.🙏
