I ride from Vilanculos to Inhassoro, in Mozambique, in Africa.
After a long editing break, it's good to be back on the road. For lunch, I stop at a roadside restaurant where they have the freshest chickens you can imagine. I also try a Mozambican specialty that is truly delicious, a sauce made of peanuts. Finally, after a pleasant day on the road, I arrive in Inhassoro, the last tourist stop in Southern Mozambique, but it's off season, and I end up in a luxury lodge for a really cheap price. What a wonderful place!

Yves, the chicken murder at the restaurant reminded me of our trip to Quelimane on the northern side of the Zambezi river in northern Mozambique. We were on our way to see the solar eclipse, I think it was in September 2001 and arrived at Caia, a small village on the south bank of the Zambezi at about 20h00. There was only a small bar with very loud music playing and we inquired where we could get food. They said they can serve us chicken and rice. Shortly after we received ice cold beer, there was a commotion in the chicken coop behind the bar and my friend Barndt said " daar kak 'n hoender " ( a chicken is shifting there )and at least the chicken dish will be fresh. It is difficult to translate it in English, but it was really funny ) People also warned us that when we returned we must be careful of the lion's a few kilometres south of Caia on the way to Inchope / Beira. The lions learned of an easy takeaway meal at night time. They just wait for the bakkie / pick-up truck taxi's to past and then take one of the passengers standing on the rear-bumper / tow bar. We experienced the lion's modus operandi that evening on our way to Caia. About 10 km outside the town we saw the lions next to the road. As we passed them, they charged my dubble cab bakkie, but unfortunately for them, there was not an easy meal /passenger to collect.

Kino the African way to show someone you can't stop is to tap your wrist watch with your finger and then shake you hand Infront of you. Means no time in a nice way. Safe trip.
