Good day Yves. Mozambique is really heaven on earth., but don't overlook the thorns on the way. Corruption caused me to stop visiting Mozambique. We were involved with the Camping ground in Vilanculos on the main beach. It was in ruined and we rehabilitated the camp, installed electricity and water to each individual camp site, and planted the lawn right through the camping site. We upgraded the bathrooms and install a new pump and 2 x 5000 liter water tanks. I personally delivered the one tank. I bought it at Mbombela and took it to Vilanculos. Theft used to be a big problem and we installed a new security fence. We equipped the bar and restaurant and erect a big thatch roof lapa in front of the restaurant with enough tables to accommodate 80 person's We also build a Thach roof lapa for our own use. It was heaven on earth with the biggest lawn in Mozambique, but then we just got fed up with the constant raid of our wallets and the interference of Dodo, our Mozambique partner in camp matters. Jan use to travel to Mozambique each month to pay the workers, but after he returned home after one of his visits, our Mozambique friend took control of camp and cash. Before that, the final straw for me was when the speed cops stopped us just north of Maxixe and said I was speeding Just before that, I told my brother Jan that the speed cops are always hiding under a big mango tree and pointed out the tree. I was definitely not speeding, but then the speed cops stopped me and said I was travelling at 80 km/h and demanded R1000.00 fine Jan was fluent in Portuguese and managed to reduce the fine to R500.00 That was my last trip to Mozambique. Jan continued for a few more months, but at the end also call it the day and left with the camp grounds, after our Mozambiquen friend interference. Within a few months the management of the camp collapsed, with no water or electricity available and theft was again a big problem. Dodo immediately sold the 2 thatch roof lapa and all the restaurant equipment. Today the campground is in ruins. Jan's son visited Vilanculos in July and it is heartbroken to see the current status of the camp. But our story is not an isolated story. Other South African investors also had similar experiences. To do business in Mozambique, you had to have a Mozambiquen partner and most of the time, the partner is the problem. But Mozambique itself remains a heaven. But don't do any business there. Maybe, I will visit Mozambique again one day.
