Yes. It is stated that the first Europeans to settle in Lagos were the Portuguese in the 15th century and they gave Lagos her name- deriving from the Portuguese word for ‘lakes’. The land was initially called ‘Eko’.

Goa a part of India, Macao an autonomous region of China were once Portuguese Colonies! Mombasa in Kenya particularly Fort Jesus, Lagos in Nigeria, Sierra Leone also came into contact with the Portuguese! Sierra Leone means a Mountain that looks like a Lion, Lagos is Lake as pointed out. Please do a little research on the places you visit....... don't go to a place completely blank!
