flydubai 1073, Part 3: Why Europe Wants Two People in Every Cockpit Again
Descrição
On May 18, 2026, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) went back to recommending at least two authorised people in the cockpit at all times. This video goes through the investigation reports behind that advice: the BEA's list of 12 cases since 1980 in which a crew member's intentional actions or mental health affected a flight; EgyptAir 990 (NTSB) and the Egyptian authority's dissent; LAM Mozambique 470 (Namibia's DAAI); the "rehearsal" on Germanwings 9525's outbound flight (BEA); a 2024 Lufthansa A321 incident in which the co-pilot, alone, became incapacitated (Spain's CIAIAC); and what a second person in the cockpit can and can't do, set against flydubai 1073, FedEx 705 (from the U.S. court record) and SilkAir 185. No names of the pilots involved are used.
If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available: in the US call or text 988, in the UK and Ireland call Samaritans on 116 123.

Europe recommended two people in the cockpit in 2015, dropped it in 2016, and brought it back in May 2026. Should it be mandatory everywhere, or does it add risks of its own, as the BEA warned? Subscribe for the next investigation, rebuilt from the original reports. flydubai 1073, the series: Part 1, what happened in the cockpit (the axe and the door); Part 2, who was supposed to vet the co-pilot; Part 3, why Europe wants two people in every cockpit again. All three are in the playlist "flydubai 1073".
