Des Cason. How to sail in dangerous weather. #HowToPredictWeather #HowToSailSafely
Descrição
Here is the second film from the series “The Folks of the Ocean”.
Umadum on his way to Cape Town in dangerous Mozambique channel.
Why it is so dangerous? Why they call it shipwrecking coast, wild coast?
It’s dangerous because of the weather. Because of unexpected weather changes. Because of southwest storms blowing over the strong Agulhas current. Because of big breaking waves which broke even big freighters.
Des Cason, OCC Award recipient, explains in this film how to avoid this dangers and sail this coast safely and easy.
Watch this film and you’ll know:
How to sail South African Coast?
How to read weather maps?
How to read grib files?
You can contact Des Cason via email sygambit(at)gmail.com
Stay safe,
Tali and Guenther

I had thought with the advent of satellite downloaded weather information, the days of weather routers were numbered. Des has local insights that computer modeling don't consider. Nice video!

Des was awesome on our trip from Tanzania through Mozambique to Richards Bay. His forecasts exactly matched the GFS forecast in Predictwind , but he knows how to decipher it with local knowledge which makes all the difference...god bless a newcomer to this coast who isn’t in contact with Des!

Thank you so much. What an excellent video. I’ve heard of Des Cason so many times when Zi talked to sailors and yachties in Richardsbay, but what a delight to see and gear him talking on this video 👍👍👍
