Cyclone Kenneth battered northern Mozambique with sustained winds of up to 220 kilometers per hour late on 24 April after killing three people on the island nation of Comoros overnight.initial reports from the Comoros indicate that several villages were flooded due to sea surges and broken dykes, and that power was cut in multiple locations. Roads have reportedly been damaged and cut off by fallen trees, while telephone poles are down in multiple locations Kenneth rapidly intensified from a Category 1- to a Category 4-equivalent tropical cyclone up until almost landfall on the evening of 25 April, Tropical Cyclone Kenneth made landfall 30 km of Quisanga Mozambique. according to the Mozambique National Institute for Meteorology (INM). Kenneth slowed down after landfall and may possibly stall for a time. While it will continue to rapidly weaken, slow-moving or stalling tropical cyclones are notoriously prodigious rainfall proucers. Ex Tropical Cyclone Kenneth is forecast to bring heavy rains, with over 500mm of rainfall expected from 24 to 30 April, and more than 750mm possible in some locations in Cabo Delgado. Southern Tanzania and eastern Malawi are also expected to receive rains caused by the weather system.
