Cyclone Jude became the latest storm to form earlier on Saturday as it passed Madagascar, and is now on a short run up to landfall in the Nampula province of Mozambique late Sunday or Monday. With sea surface temperatures of nearly 30 degrees in the area, a fair convective pattern and a tight central rotation, Jude is likely to start rapidly intensifying shortly and could be approaching Category 3 status by the time it makes landfall. Along with very strong winds, rainfall of 450mm is forecast for the area around the landfall, including in the city of Nacala.
Jude will move inland through Zambézia province, and emerge east of Beira in a much weakened state later in the week, but winds will remain strong and rainfall of 300mm is still expected at this possible exit point.
Cyclone Ivone also formed out over the Indian Ocean, and whilst currently slightly stronger than Jude, this storm is not expected to affect land and will remain fairly weak.
Cyclone Alfred’s reign has ended over southern Queensland, but its remnant energy lingers on with heavy rainfall and winds of around 30 miles per hour sustained. If the system still has a center, it is likely located over Sunshine Coast.
In the Bay of Bengal, a system at a very low latitude (3 degrees north) has a chance of developing through the next few days as it moves west-northwestwards towards Sri Lanka.

I'm in Alfred at the moment the cyclone died and eye went over to Toowoomba before fully dropping off. We are getting absolutely hammered by rain this. Flooded most places and am watching everyone get stuck, 1 person found deceased this morning. Will be fine tomorrow but rain is gonna keep going over night, we will assess tomorrow when the break comes. Would be keen to see you report on the Antarctic storm brewing… 170km winds and a strong storm looking to brew up..
