Cyclone Idai dying, rainfall still persists - 5am CAT March 17, 2019

#CycloneIdai is continuing to weaken, and has now lost tropical storm status over central Zimbabwe this morning. However, the rain threat from the system is still yet to conclude, with another 300mm or more expected over the border region between Zimbabwe and Mozambique in the next 48 hours. The storm has already delivered an estimated 750mm of rainfall to some areas, according to satellites. Satellite estimates are liable to underestimate the maximum rainfall in a region. Lesser amounts of rainfall are expected over northwestern Mozambique and southern Malawi. It is believed that 135 or more have been killed by the cyclone in the last 7 days.
