Cyclone Idai a major rain threat this week - 6am EAT March 12, 2019

Cyclone Idai remains a Category 3 storm this morning, despite a collapse of its eye structure overnight due to upwelling and dry air intrusion. The storm is still uncomfortably close to the western coast of Madagascar, and tropical storm force winds are still likely along the coast. In Mozambique, Idai is expected to arrive on Thursday or Friday, and could deliver a further 500mm of rainfall as it stalls and turns back out over the Channel. 40 are known to have been killed in Mozambique and Malawi from the precursor system to Idai.
