Cyclone Freddy major rain threat continues - March 9, 2023
Descrição
Cyclone Freddy capitulated earlier from high wind shear and dry air intrusion, along with an eyewall replacement cycle, but remains a very dangerous storm with winds near 85 miles per hour (130kph). The storm is expected to stall before it arrives in Mozambique this weekend, and the rainfall projections continue to rise, with 800mm now likely near Quelimane.
Extreme rainfall will occur offshore, but only small changes in the forecast could bring this towards land areas and exacerbate issues even further. As it is, large parts of Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe are likely to be affected by chronic widespread flooding.
Freddy will eventually turn back out to sea, but track uncertainty remains very high and its direction beyond the weekend remains very difficult to forecast.
Elsewhere, two areas of interest are developing in the South Pacific could become tropical cyclones as they move southeastwards from the Samoa region and towards the Cook Islands. Other systems could form in the basin next week.

Cyclone Freddy has been defying logic for the past month. The GFS has Freddy surviving for 42 days as a tropical cyclone! Also, does anyone know the longest time between landfalls for the same tropical cyclone? Assuming Freddy makes landfall Friday it would have been 16 days since its last landfall.
