Cyclone Batsirai Expected to Deliver Catastrophic Blow to Madagascar

Cyclone Batsirai has intensified into a powerful Category 4 storm today and is expected to maintain its strength as it passes Mauritius and La Reunion, before striking Madagascar. Mauritius and La Reunion are both expected to get tropical-storm-force winds and heavy rainfall. Then, the storm will make a catastrophic landfall in Madagascar. It is currently expected to hit as a 130mph Category 4, with rainfall over 600mm possible. Due to these factors and the storm's large size, a stage 7 has been given on the CDPS scale. This storm is extremely dangerous, please stay tuned for more updates from us, and stay tuned to local officials for information on how to prepare for this deadly storm.

Batsirai is really starting to look the part now and a Category 4 landfall on Madagascar would be historic and especially devastating. I don't think the ground, especially where there has been ongoing deforestation, will be able to handle the intense rainfall that will soon be upon it.
