A magnitude-5.1 earthquake occurred in the East China Sea west of the northern Ryukyu Islands at around 17:53 March 29.

The epicenter was about 243 km west of Kurio.

The tremor occurred at a depth of about 6 km and light shaking was probably felt throughout parts of the northern Ryukyu Islands and the far southern tip of Kyushu Island.
