'Blue Alert' issued as cyclone likely to form off WA coast

Tropical Cyclone Lucas is expected to form over waters north of Western Australia today. The system is forecast to reach at least a category 2 with parts of the Pilbara and Kimberly advised to prepare for destructive winds and heavy rain. The Department of Fires and Emergency Services has issued a "Blue Alert" for communities from Beagle Bay to Port Hedland, including Broome. Residents within this warning zone should organise an emergency kit including first aid, a torch, portable radio, spare batteries, food and water and prepare for cyclone weather.
