470,000 Affected, 60 Killed As Cyclone Gezani Devastates Madagascar, UNICEF Urges Urgent Aid

UNICEF has called for a rapid scale-up of humanitarian assistance in Madagascar as the death toll from Cyclone Gezani climbs above 60, with hundreds of thousands affected.

Drone footage from Toamasina shows neighborhoods flattened, homes swept away, and widespread infrastructure damage following winds of up to 230 km/h. The World Meteorological Organization said the storm made landfall on February 10 in eastern Madagascar, severely impacting the port city of Toamasina.

Aid agencies warn that with tens of thousands displaced and many communities still cut off, the humanitarian response must accelerate in the coming days.
